Okay, Forums have been working for a while but they suck because there is really nothing posted there yet. If you have a chance, check them out and make suggestions to get some dialog going.  For the many people that send questions to me regarding departed (or departing)  celebrities, it would be great if you could post your questions in
Forums instead.

I added some scripts to generate The List. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and appreciate any decent form of music / noise, you know The List. The scripts are not yet complete but they work well enough to make available to the public.

So it has been almost nine months since I have done anything to slick. I decided to clean-up a few things that were just simply broken and add a few new features, like forums. I still have not had time to make everything "right", just a little better.

December 29, 2001
So the big question I am getting... what the hell is going on with Slick? The short answer, Slick got hacked*... Anyway, it was pretty obvious because the script kiddie trashed the password file so that I could not log in. In general, I am not annoyed by hackers if they are just browsing the system and doing benign things... I get pissed when they break things. The good news is Slick is back up on a better machine and most of the parts are working. I took the opportunity to update the mailing list software - check out the new stuff at Slick Mailing Lists. Also, I got postcards up and running, try the Postcards link. Some other things are still broken... I am getting to them as I have time.

Thanks for you patience, thanks for your support.

* This is really not a great site to hack... First of all, it is a POS computer (now it is a better POS than it was 2 weeks ago, but it is still a POS). Secondly, there is nothing good hidden on the server. No porn, no MP3s. If you want to look at any particular file directory, let me know. I prefer to keep my e-mail private, but it isn't too interesting either. Thirdly, you don't get any hacking guru points for hacking the site... I am frequently too busy with the rest of my life to apply standard security patches in a timely fashion, so it takes little more than the ability to download a script after CERT has published a warning. Finally, if you really feel like risking a felony (or does the new law make you a terrorist), there are sites that make this worthwhile (I, for one, do not feel it is worth being sodomized for 20 years for hacking access to the Celebrity Deathwatch mailing list). In general I do not believe that the punishment for most hacking is fair or just, but if you can't even preserve the password file...

Very cool NEW addition!!! I just added a must-have utility for any death pool junkie... Check out the Death Pool List Checker - simply enter a list of celebrities and get all of the statistics! It still needs a little work but I think you will find it handy! I have also heard a rumor that Rollerderby will be updated very soon...

Well, I finally cleaned up the site a little. A few months ago I had a pretty bad server crash and had to do a full rebuild. You may have noticed that some scripts (mostly the postcards but a few others) have not been working for a while.

Well, the site has been updated but I have been slow to write down any news here. The Wicked Eye joined Slick, as did Murder Can Be Fun (sort of). Most recent addition is postcards - finally with content you might want to see. In other news, mailing list software has been installed an the Tiki News sends out regular mailings for events in the Tiki and lounge scene. Celebrity Deathwatch will be moving to the new mailing list soon. If anybody is interested in setting up a mailing list, let me know!

A slow month, but a bunch of new stuff will be up in the next few weeks. Look for a new forum, a new comic strip and as they say in laundry commercials, a fresh new scent.

Well, a few things are up and running now. The coolest thing recently added is web based e-mail for Slick.ORG users. You can access it from the user pages link. And yes, this should be enhanced in the near future to create an index of actual users (if we ever get any).

New content added to the site in the form of Rollerderby and The Tiki News. Please take the time to visit these sites. It has been a big week for celebrity deaths, so find out how you are doing in the dead pool by visiting Celebrity Deathwatch.

A few more additions in the works... The server clock was set to the correct time (duh) and forums now work with e-mail (you can subscribe and get all posts via e-mail). I am keeping the post by e-mail disabled for now. Also, good news - we will be adding some quality content to the sight in the next 2-3 days. Hint: Think Grass Skirts. The next very big thing to tackle is web based e-mail... Looking for something to occupy your free time? Try this or maybe this (this is not an endorsement of either site).

Well, the good news is Celebrity Deathwatch is alive and well. Click on the link and register to participate in the forum. The mailing list is not completely set up yet, so if you "subscribe" to have it automatically mailed to you, you will not get them in your e-mail. Many special thanks to Bingo the Clown, Len Fisher and Danny Gromfin for the inspiration. On a side (and slightly depressing) note, counters are installed as well, so it is possible to see how few visitors come here each day.

It looks like I almost have the mailing lists / forums working. First up for forums will probably be "Celebrity Deathwatch".

December 24, 1998
Well, the server is up and running and there is no content whatsoever. Over the next few weeks I hope to have a few interesting sites featured, web based e-mail and mailing lists. As always, contributors are anxiously welcomed. Stay tuned for updates!
